Polish striker Robert Lewandowski said that the final score of the match was not that important and the opposing team was not the real challenge. “Sometimes it is harder to score a goal in a training session,” he said.
The coach of the national team, Adam Nawałka, told the media after the game that the performance of the whole team was worthy of praise, but “in the World Cup we should keep our feet firmly on the ground. We will play against much more difficult opponents than today (on Tuesday – ed.).
Mr Nawałka also said that he is satisfied with the preparations of the team for the FIFA World Cup. “We had a final test before the first match of the tournament, which is now a priority. Of course, we have the next games in mind, but the first one is now the most important,” he said.
Polish midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, whose unusual backheel goal was disallowed after the ball touched his arm, told journalists of Polish public sports channel TVP Sport that he “was robbed of a goal”. “If I had not had my arm there, it would have hit in my chest. Referees should not use their whistles in such situations,” said Krychowiak.
Polish president Andrzej Duda, who was present at the match, personally thanked players for their performance in the game against Lithuania and wished them success in the forthcoming World Cup matches.
